"Works fine but eats power 23 hours 59 minutes 50 seconds"

Ok so I caved and listened to the coffee fanatic hype about how burr grinders are just SO much better than blade grinders. Bought this one because it got decent reviews and the price, altho annoying, was not horrifying. I got mine at a very well known kitchen store in the mall but that's irrelevant. This model grinds just fine. I feel we're using more coffee than before because it auto feeds the beans. Previously we'd dump exactly enough scoops in the blade grinder by hand. That leads me to the first annoyance. The little rotor knob for setting the grind time is so lame. It should be a clicky sort of knob with positive stops, then it would stay roughly at the setting you want day after day. Instead it's a very soft touch, infinitely adjustable wheel that moves if a fly lands on it, with the result that it's never ever the same twice. Usually it gets moved up and the resulting coffee is WAY black. Ok, I admit I like it that way. Anyhow to prevent really bad cases of shakes :-) I finally put a piece of tape across the knob so it stays put, looks like crap tho. If you're a stainless steel freak you will like this look; if you hate fingerprints like I do you will not like it nearly as much. As for static, I find that really good fresh beans suffer from static, while old beans not nearly so much. I often get a mess on the counter when attempting to pour out the ground coffee because it jumps around, I guess due to static. I wonder if a metal catcher would be better because the charge would not accumulate the way it does on this plastic but then of course you would not be able to see thru the side. Ah, tradeoffs. Ok finally an explanation of this review title, the second annoyance. We grind 10 seconds worth of coffee every day, that seems to be enough for 2 decent cups. The other 23 hours, 59 minutes and 50 seconds of each day this thing slurps enough power to make the case NOTICEABLY warm. I want it to be OFF the 99.9% of the day when I'm not using it. Gimme a break, at this price they could have used a decent switching power supply instead of a cheap old wall wart, right? Well, happy grinding.
